VERSE:
And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: (JOHN 19:17 (KJV)
EXPLANATION:
The verse we are going to meditate on today is John 19:17 “And he took up his cross and went to a place called Golgotha in Hebrew.”
If there is one most important day in the history of the world, it is the day Jesus Christ was crucified. We call this day ‘Good Friday’ because this day shows the great sacrifice, great love and great grace of God. This day is called ‘Good Friday’ in English because the people of the world received good things such as salvation and freedom from Satan by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
When we think of the sufferings and pain of Jesus Christ on the cross, our eyes begin to shed tears without realizing it. Filled with deep sorrow, our hearts are weighed down.
This day reminds us of God’s love, sacrifice and patience. This day commemorates the joy of salvation and the forgiveness of sins earned by Christ through the crucifixion and death. Because of this, this day becomes a day of remembrance for us as children of God. At the same time, it is essential that you commit yourself to the fulfillment of that purpose in your life for which Jesus Christ sacrificed his life on the cross.
Jesus Christ surrendered himself completely to the Father’s will. He dedicated himself saying that not my will but your will be done. We find him saying, ‘Should I not drink of the cup which the Father hath given me?’ That is why, like a lamb being led to the slaughter, he did not open his mouth when he was going to the place called Calvary. “He was oppressed, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a goat that does not bleat before its shearers, he did not open his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7).
If you surrender yourself to do God’s will in your life, you will inherit eternal life. The scriptures say that he who does the will of the Father will enter the kingdom of heaven and he who says to me, Lord, Lord will not enter it (Matthew 7:21).
Beloved, resolve to love with all your heart the Christ who sacrificed for you on the cross of Calvary. Let that calvary love embrace you. Dedicate your life to God.
PRAYER:
God of love! Praise be to You for patiently enduring all the pains and reproaches that You suffered on the cross for us. There is no God as loving as You. I praise You for Your immeasurable love. We are freed from sin by the blood shed on the cross. Please forgive all our sins even now. We submit to do Your will in our lives. It will help you inherit eternal life. I pray in Jesus name Good Father, Amen.
