When a man was cutting a tree, the axe fell into the water, and he cried: Oh my Lord
VERSE:
But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. (2 Kings 6:5 KJV)
EXPLANATION:
The verse we are going to meditate on today is 2 Kings 6:5 “When a man was cutting a tree, the axe fell into the water, and he cried: Oh my Lord, it was bought by night.”
There are seven miracles performed by Elijah and fourteen miracles performed by Elisha in the Bible. The incident in the above verse is one of Elisha’s miracles.
Why does God perform miracles and signs? The Bible says, “These things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing in his name you may have eternal life” (John 20:31).
In the days of Elisha the sons of the prophet wanted to build a house for them to live in. When a man was cutting down a tree, the axe fell into the deep waters of the Jordan River. “Oh, my lord, it was borrowed from another person,” he cried.
If it was borrowed, it must be returned. Even your body was borrowed from God. So it is your duty to keep it sacred. Some abandon their bodies to sins and lusts. The spirit and the soul defile the body. How to give an account before God about the body?
The scriptures say, “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, whom you have received from God and who dwells in you, and that you are not your own? You have been bought; Therefore glorify God with your body and with your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19,20).
The man of God, Elijah, looked at the prophet who cut down the tree and asked, “Where did it fall?” He asked. You have an obligation to investigate where it fell. In what areas of your life have you been lacking? What sin has overtaken you? What situation are you in right now?
Examine yourself today. Like David, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; “Test me and know my thoughts. See if there is a way of trouble in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23,24).
Beloved, return to primordial love. Return to the original prayer life. The Lord is able to graciously lift you up and sustain you.
PRAYER:
Lord of love! Thank you Lord for this verse you gave me today. Lord, give me back the love I had for you in the beginning. Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and make me endure with a cheerful spirit. I pray in Jesus name Good Father, Amen.
