At that time, the Roman ruler, Caesar Augustus, ordered everyone to go back to their hometown to be counted. So, Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem, even though Mary was very close to giving birth. It was a long and tiring journey, but they trusted that God would take care of them.
When they reached Bethlehem, there was no room in any inn. All the places were full. So they had to stay in a simple stable a small place where animals were kept. And it was there, in that humble place, that the Saviour of the world was born.
Mary wrapped baby Jesus in cloth and laid Him in a manger — a feeding box for animals. It was not fancy or royal, but it was filled with love and the presence of God.
The Shepherds and the Angels
That same night, out in the fields, some shepherds were watching over their sheep. Suddenly, an angel appeared, shining with the light of heaven. The shepherds were terrified, but the angel said,
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)
Then, a whole group of angels appeared, praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favour rests.”
The shepherds were amazed! They hurried to Bethlehem to see the baby. When they found Jesus lying in the manger, just as the angel said, they were filled with joy and went around telling everyone about what they had seen.

Later, some wise men from the East saw a special star shining brightly in the sky. They knew it was a sign that a great King had been born. They followed the star, which led them to Jesus.
When they found Him, they bowed down and worshipped Him. They offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh gifts fit for a king.
