Jesus Christ – From Heaven to Earth for Our Salvation
In the quietness of a cold night, in a small town called Bethlehem, a miracle took place. It was not a royal birth in a palace, but something far greater — Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born as a baby in a humble stable.
In Tamil Christian songs and poems, we beautifully sing:
“தேவ குமாரன் இயேசு தேவலோகம் துறந்தார்”
(The Son of God, Jesus, left heaven)
“பாலன் இயேசு பிறந்தார்”
(Baby Jesus was born)
This is not just a poetic line — it’s a life-changing truth. The King of kings left all His glory, came down to earth in human form, lived among us, and gave His life to save us.
Let us take some time in this article to reflect on the beauty and power of this moment — why Jesus came, what His birth means to us today, and how we can respond to His love.
He Left Heaven for Us
The first line of the song says it clearly — “தேவலோகம் துறந்தார்”. Jesus, the eternal Son of God, left His heavenly throne. He didn’t have to. Heaven was full of glory, light, and worship. But He chose to step into a broken world.
Why?
Because He loved us.
Philippians 2:6–7 says:
“Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a servant and was born as a human being.”
Just think — the Creator of the universe became a baby who had to be carried, fed, and cared for. That’s true humility. That’s pure love.
The Angels Sang – Earth Rejoiced
“தேவ தூதர்கள் பாட மண்ணின் மைந்தன் ஆனார்…”
(The angels sang, and Heaven celebrated the birth of the Son on earth.)
The night Jesus was born, heaven could not keep silent. Angels appeared to shepherds and announced the good news:
“Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to those on whom His favour rests.”
(Luke 2:14)
This wasn’t just the birth of a child. This was the beginning of God’s rescue plan for the world.
Born to Save and Set Free
“மண்ணில் மீட்பு காணவே… சாத்தன் சேனை வீழ்த்திட”
(He was born to bring salvation to earth and defeat Satan’s army)
Jesus didn’t come just to be admired as a baby in a manger. He came with a purpose — to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) and bring salvation to every person.
His birth marked the start of victory — over sin, death, fear, and all the powers of darkness.
He Took the Form of the Lowly
“ஏழை கோலமாய் தாழ்வின் ரூபமாய்”
(In poor appearance, in humble form)
Jesus could have been born in a palace. But instead, He chose a stable, wrapped in simple cloth, with no comfort or honour. He became one with the poor, the rejected, and the ordinary.
This shows us that Jesus understands our pain. He knows what it means to be rejected, to suffer, to feel hungry, to feel alone. He is not a distant God. He is Emmanuel – God with us.
The Promise Fulfilled
“சர்ப்பத்தின் சாபம் நீக்கிட”
(To break the curse of the serpent)
All the way back in Genesis 3:15, God made a promise — that a Saviour would come and crush the head of the serpent (Satan). The birth of Jesus was the fulfilment of that promise.
What Adam lost through sin, Jesus came to restore through grace. His birth started a new chapter of hope, healing, and redemption.
For Sinners, With Love
“பாவ நாசராய், பாவி நேசராய்”
(To destroy sin, to love the sinner)
Jesus didn’t come for the perfect. He came for the broken, the struggling, the lost.
In Matthew 9:13, He says:
“I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
That means, no matter who you are or what your past looks like — Jesus came for you. He came to destroy sin’s power in your life and give you a fresh start.
A Personal Reflection – The Baby Who Changed My Life
When I was younger, I used to see the nativity scene — baby Jesus in a manger — and think it was just part of Christmas. But one year, during a Christmas service, the preacher said something that stayed in my heart:
“That baby in the manger came for you. He didn’t stay a baby. He grew up, died on the cross, and rose again — all because He loves you.”
That night, I understood it personally. Jesus wasn’t just a story — He was my Saviour. And that changed my life.
What Should Our Response Be?
When we understand the depth of what Jesus did — leaving heaven, humbling Himself, dying for us — the only natural response is worship.
Like the shepherds, we can bow in wonder. Like the wise men, we can offer Him our gifts — not gold or frankincense, but our hearts, our time, our love.
Let’s say like the song:
“ஆராதனை உமக்கு… பாலன் இயேசுவே”
(Worship belongs to You, baby Jesus)
