The land of Israel is the land that God gave to Abraham
The land of Israel is the land that God gave to Abraham
VERSE:
And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. (GENESIS 48:5 KJV)
EXPLANATION:
The verse we are going to meditate on today is Genesis 48:5 “…Your two sons born to you in the land of Egypt before you came to Egypt are my sons; As Reuben and Simeon, Ephraim and Manasseh are mine.”
When Jacob became an adult, he called all his grandchildren born through Joseph to him and blessed him. Those grandchildren were born in Egypt, a land of slavery. The land of Israel is the land that God gave to Abraham and his descendants as an inheritance forever.
Before Jacob blessed them, he took the grandchildren born in Egypt as equal to his children born in the land of Israel. What freedom his children had, he wanted to pass on to his grandchildren. From then on, they were called Jacob’s own children.
You too were seen before God living in slavery like grandchildren in Egypt. Up. Paul writes, “…Ye formerly walked according to this world, and according to the spirit of the prince of the air, which now worketh among the children of disobedience. Among them all of us formerly walked according to the lust of our flesh, doing the things of our flesh and mind, and were by nature children of wrath like the rest. God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love that loved us, made us alive together with Christ, who were dead in our trespasses; By grace you are saved.” (Ephesians 2:2-5).
This God’s plan is called the “Son Evangelism Plan”. Consider again what James says. ‘Though those grandchildren were born in Egypt, they are now mine. They don’t need to be my grandchildren. They will be my own children from now on. I adopt them from the status of grandchildren and bring them to the status of my own children’.
What does this mean? Grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh should call Jacob “Father” when they see him. Yes, this is what Jesus Christ has for you.
The scriptures say, “Therefore you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fear, but you received the spirit of righteousness, crying out, ‘Abba, Father.'” (Romans 8:15). Yes, we need children who can call him with the evangelical spirit of “Father, Father.” We do not need the name of those who are in slavery in Egypt. We need the name of co-heirs with Christ.
Beloved, is it not a great blessing that you too have been incorporated into His family and exalted to call Him ‘Abba, Father’?
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father of love! Thank you for freeing me from slavery. Thank you, Lord, for giving me the spirit of sonship that calls out, “Abba, Father.” Thank you for your love. There is no one in this world to love me. I still cling to you. From this day my father will take charge of my life. I pray in Jesus name Good Father, Amen.
