Archbishop Mark Coleridge, of the Brisbane Archdiocese, shares about his favourite Bible verse from the Gospel of John.
“One of the soldiers pierced his side with a lance, and immediately there flowed forth blood and water.” (John 19:34)
He says, “In comparing the wound on Christ’s side becoming a fountain parallels the prophesies of Ezekiel, where a trickle of water runs out of the temple and that then becomes a stream and then a massive river flowing into the deserts of the cosmos and turning death to life. This passage despite its simplicity says something incredibly profound.”
If a young person wants to know God, they need not look further than Jesus, however this is quite difficult to do on your own so an event such as Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) is an incredibly powerful event in someone’s faith life. The power of the group, the power of pilgrimage and the power of togetherness are what underscore events such as World Youth Day and ACYF.
