THE SCROLL guitar and harp Christian song
This song is a reflection on the times we’re experiencing, and on Revelation Chapter Five. The words came to me in the middle of the night a few weeks back. I wrote them on a scrap of paper and went back to sleep. Rare, but fun when that happens. There are two instruments: A Taylor 614CE acoustic guitar made of maple, and a Stony End Lorraine double-strung harp made of walnut. No synthesizers. I am a sinner. But I am forgiven because I trust in Jesus Christ the Son of God. He blessed me with the gift of music, and I want to share the blessing.
The Scroll
memory decays although our spirit never ages
drifting into haze the fading lessons we once learned
longing for the days we never captured in a journal
everything eternal must be spiritually discerned
keeper of the scroll
lead me to follow your ways
shepherd of my soul
teach me to value my days
save me from eternal fire
let my love for you inspire
’til my days on earth expire…
as the scroll unravels troubles escalate in stages
civility degenerates right before our eyes
who can know the master plan concealed within its pages?
for hidden are the meanings from the foolish and the wise
shepherd of my soul
lead me to follow your ways
keeper of the scroll
teach me to value my days
let me love what you desire
let me live as you require
lift my spirit ever higher
higher, higher, higher…
how can fallen creatures even fathom one so holy
stumbling in the darkness as deception fills the land?
only by a teacher who is humble, meek, and lowly
only by his spirit can we hear and understand
shepherd of my soul
lead us to follow your ways
keeper of the scroll
teach us to value our days
let us love what you desire
let us live as you require
lift our spirits even higher
higher, higher, higher…
