Lord Have Mercy Greek/Coptic Orthodox Hymn
Je Nai Nan is part of one of the three Coptic Orthodox Church divine liturgies. The hymn was composed more than a dozen of centuries ago out of a daily life of repentance some of the first church members who lived in Greece and Egypt embraced. Since then, the hymn is being chanted during the Gregorian mass right before a priest prays for air, fruits, waters of the rivers, and the other natural resources of Earth.
Musical instruments, however, except for the rhythm-adjusting triangle and cymbals, haven’t been used during Coptic liturgies in Egypt or during non-Coptic Orthodox liturgies outside Egypt since nearly the 3rd century ???? . The Arabic language had neither been used in the Coptic liturgies prior to the Islamic conquest of the country in the 7th century. Accordingly, the 1st part of the hymn is being chanted here in some of the first church members’ language, i.e. Coptic, while the 2nd part of this video is in Arabic
